SANDISK LAUNCHES WIRELESS PENDRIVE


SanDisk Corporation, today expanded its mobile storage portfolio with a new wireless mobile flash drive, the San Disk Connect Wireless Stick. This new drive enables easy sharing, transferring and accessing of photos and videos between mobile devices and computers. The SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick features a higher capacity, up to 128GB, a new app, and compact design. The SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick will initially be available at Flipkart and then extended to other channels in a phased manner by end of December. 
SanDisk’s new wireless storage device is designed to meet their quickly growing storage needs, at an affordable price. The availability of up to 128GB of capacity allows users to effectively double their mobile storage for greater flexibility on the go.

WINDOWS 10 VERSION OF CANVAS LAPTAB


Micromax has announced the Windows 10 version of the Canvas LapTab. This new version is the company’s first device that is based on Windows 10. The device will be powered by Intel’s 4th generation Atom quad-core processor that’s clocked at 1.83GHz. It will have 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage along with 2MP cameras at the front and rear.  The LapTab will have a USB as well as a microUSB port with OTG support. The device is launched at a price of Rs. 14,999 and is claimed to have 10 hours of usage.

FREE GROUP CALLING IN HIKE MESSENGER


Hike Messenger, headed by Kavin Mittal, son of Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, on Friday launched free group calling where users can connect up to 100 people.
The calling feature, which will work over 4G and Wi-Fi to begin with, is available only on Android but will also be available on Windows and iOS by the end of the year, the company said in a statement.
“With the introduction of group calling, Hike has also dropped the beta tag on VoIP (voice over internet), officially rolling out the feature. Now, with the tap of a single button, you can connect up to 100 people in one call. It’s that simple. No more pins, no more dial-in numbers and no more putting people on hold. Making a group call has never been this easy,” hike messenger founder and CEO Kavin Bharti Mittal said.
Hike was launched in December 2012 and has over 35 million users. It has raised $86 million from Tiger Global and BSB till date.

TIM COOK STEPPED OUT OF STEVE JOBS'S SHADOW

When Apple revealed its new, giant iPad Pro with a special accessory called Apple Pencil on Thursday, the crowd in the San Francisco audibly tittered. The reason? The $99 ($160) accessory is not a revolutionary new invention - it's just a fancy stylus, an electronic pointer of the kind abhorred by Apple's former, much-loved chief executive Steve Jobs.

The joke dates back to 2007 at the iPhone 1 launch, when Jobs famously said: "Who wants a stylus? You have to get them, put them away. You lose them. Yuck. Nobody wants a stylus."
Fast forward eight years, and it turns out Apple does want a stylus after all. Of course, the new Apple Pencil appears to be an advanced, slick descendant of the one that was shipped with phones like the Palm Treo 700p back in 2006. But it's also the symbol of a new era. It shows Apple chief executive Tim Cook's willingness to break the hard rules set down by Apple's opinionated founder - and finally emerge from Jobs' shadow.

During Apple's product launch event, Cook announced a slew of new products, with a mix of marginal and radical improvements on their predecessors.
The iPhones 6S and 6 Plus come in large screen sizes of 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches respectively, and have a high-resolution 12-megapixel camera. The massive 12.9-inch iPad Pro is Apple's bid for the enterprise workplace - and the firm showed it meant business by bringing on stage Microsoft's Kirk Koenigsbauer, vice president of MS Office, to demonstrate how Apple's rival is using the Pencil as a productivity tool.
And finally the new Apple TV allows developers to create entertainment and gaming apps, and will allegedly launch a television streaming subscription service next year.
Jobs famously objected to all three: large phones, Microsoft and subscription media services. Yet Cook has shown the confidence to disregard, and overrule these historic oppositions, making him a leader in his own right. He is no longer just the custodian of a legacy, but is actively building his own. And if it pays off, he will take over your workplace and your living room, while making the most profitable products on the planet.
The new products announced this week aren't the first time Cook has strayed from the party line. In March, he unveiled the Apple Watch, the first completely new device created under his leadership - and designed without the input of Jobs. Similarly, he released the 7.9-inch iPad mini in 2012, despite Jobs' derision for small tablets, and paid $3bn to acquire headphone maker Beats - an affront to Jobs' view that building innovation was far better than buying it.
We can't say yet how these new bets will play out - whether people will start buying (and wearing) Apple Watches, subscribing to Apple Music or paying with Apple Pay. But it signifies that Apple has moved forward and continues to experiment, rather than simply cultivating its existing, highly profitable range of products.
In a mirror scenario, Microsoft's new boss Satya Nadella faced similar challenges when Steve Ballmer ended his decade-long tenure as chief executive, and Gates stepped down from his position as chairman in 2014. People had moved on from primarily using computers to conducting business on their mobiles, powered mostly by Apple's iOS and Google's Android software. So Nadella repositioned Microsoft as a cloud business. He has made Office software available on Apple and Google-powered phones. He brokered new partnerships with former rivals. And, like Cook, he's coming into his own.
In fact, it's clear that Cook's Apple is financially healthy. Its stock has risen from a split-adjusted $54 to $110 since Jobs died, resulting in a market capitalisation north of $600bn. Apple has continued to grow its dominance in the high-end smartphone space, especially in China - its second largest market - where it reportedly sold $38bn of merchandise in 2014. Cook announced during the event yesterday that Apple's iPhone market grew 75pc in China year-on-year, allaying fears about negative effects of the severe downturn in the Chinese economy.
So the big difference between the larger-than-life Jobs and the more human Cook then is that Cook isn't wedded to a higher vision - he seems able to hear what customers are asking for, and make those products available. In fact, screen sizes of the 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus last year were driven by public demand, and their runaway success proved Jobs and Apple purists wrong.
So maybe the Apple Pencil isn't anathema after all - Jobs couldn't have envisioned the giant sheet of responsive glass that could be used for everything from a 3D surgical aid to a graphic designer's dynamic sketchpad. The "stylus" acts almost like a real pencil - it can draw thicker lines with greater applied pressure and responds to gestures, like shading when you tilt or drawing lines when you drag it. These aren't features that your finger could replicate.
Of course, the stylus wasn't invented by Apple and the Microsoft business-friendly Surface Pro tablet looks awfully familiar. But the truth is, Apple does somehow get people to eagerly adopt its new products and inspires fierce loyalty.

When a Mumbai-based medium retailer, who does business in leather goods, decided to enter the e-commerce segment, it was a daunting task, no doubt. Photo-shoots, cataloguing, order processing, returns, payment reconciliations and other technology issues are some of the challenges that dithered him to open his online platform.
Founded in 2012, BLUBOX.in is a Mumbai-based platform which offers solutions to brands and retailers who want to venture into the e-commerce segment. Others who participated in the round are Amit Jhalani, CEO of MySolitaire.com and Supreet Singh, a serial entrepreneur and CEO of Altor.co.in.
The venture will use the funding to upgrade its technological infrastructure and fuel its expansion plan.
According to industry experts, of 4.8 million SMEs in the country, 40 per cent are engaged in consumer product. All of these SMEs which are manufacturers or sellers of consumer products and the potential customers in the segment.
However, there are not many big players in the market catering to the potential online sellers.
Goa-based Browntape is another player which helps online merchants manage orders and inventory for e-commerce marketplaces. In April 2015, Browntape raised the seed fund of around USD one million from serial entrepreneur K. Ganesh.
Sellerworx, with the similar service of helping small businesses sell at online marketplaces, makes competition triangular in the segment. In January this year, it received funding of around USD one million from Axilor Ventures and Kris Gopalakrishnan.
On existing competition, Harish says there is an enormous untapped opportunity with just a few players catering to the market. To give an idea about the potential market, Alibaba’s Taobao has more than 85 lakh sellers on its platform. In India, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Paytm and Amazon combined have less than one lakh unique sellers. This difference in numbers gives a picture of growth potential of the market. However, these marketplaces are launching various programs to attract the sellers. Still, there are lots of issues that need to be addressed before coaxing these sellers to sell online.
BLUBOX and other players are trying to reach the potential market. They are addressing the need of the market and claiming to offer complete solutions to the present and sellers who are their potential clients.

SAMSUNG LAUNCHES GALAXY J2


Samsung India Electronics on Thursday launched Samsung Galaxy J2, the latest entrant in the Galaxy J family.
With the launch of Galaxy J2, Samsung now has strengthened its portfolio of 4G LTE smart phones allowing customers to have superfast internet.

MISFIT PARTNERS WITH SNAPDEAL


Three Misfit wearables are now available: Misfit Shine, Misfit Flash, and Misfit Link.Wearables brand Misfit has partnered with Snapdeal to sell its products in India. AMAZON EXPANDS CONSUMER ELECTRONICS STORE


AmazonBasics line in India currently includes products like Apple-certified lightning cables, data cables for Android devices, audio video cables and adapters.
E-commerce giant Amazon (India)  has announced expansion of its consumer electronics store with
the launch of AmazonBasics. AmazonBasics offers a range of digital and home accessories for customers who want exceptional value, the company said in a release.
Launched in 2009 in the US, AmazonBasics products are available in most of Amazon’s global marketplaces. “With 1-year warranty, appealing designs and reliable quality, AmazonBasics is targeting to offer an enhanced customer experience through a wide range of products. We are excited to make our global product portfolio available to customers in India,” Amazon India VP Category Management Samir
The company said. Going ahead, the product line will be rapidly expanded to reflect the global selection, it added.

SONY ROLLS OUT 5.1.1 UPDATE TO OLD XPERIA DEVICES


Owners of the old Sony Xperia Z series devices will soon rejoice as Sony is finally rolling out the much anticipated Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware.
According to the company, the update will land on the following devices starting Sept. 9: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z Wi-Fi, as well as Xperia Tablet Z LTE models.
The company, on the other hand, said the latest update can only be seeded to these specific variants, as of the moment: C6602 and C6603 variants (for Xperia Z); C6503 and C6506 variants (Xperia ZL); C5503 only (for Xperia ZR); SGP311 and SGP312 (for Xperia Tablet Z Wi-Fi); and SGP321 only (for Xperia Tablet Z LTE models).
In addition, the Xperia Blog confirmed the Stagefright exploit has not been totally patched in the update.
"Looks like the Stagefright exploit has not been fully patched in this update. We will attach some FTF firmware links in this post in due course, but in the meantime, if you have installed the update, let us know your initial impressions below," reads the blog post.
Devices will be in the form of build number 10.7.A.0.222 after applying the latest update.
Based on reports, the company earlier planned that the update would be released to the Xperia Z series in July, which is a little later than the original schedule.
Other reports are also quite disappointed that the StageFright security vulnerability has not been patched by the company in this update, saying other manufacturers have already rolled out fixes for this particular serious flaw.
Meanwhile, Tech Times reported in March the official announcement of Google on the release of Android 5.1 which brought a number of bug fixes as well as minor changes to the operating system.
In the report, it was revealed that the update was first rolled out to Google Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
The update, according to Google, improves stability as well as performance and touts to offer some new features which include the following: support for multiple SIM cards, Device Protection as well as high-definition (HD) voice on compatible phones.

IPHONE 6S AND 6S PLUS



  • Apple is expected to unveil new phones Wednesday

Apple is widely expected to unveil two new iPhones at an event in San Francisco, California Wednesday.
The new devices, expected to be called the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, likely won’t be as radical a change as last year’s handsets, which substantially expanded the iPhone’s form factor. Still, the new gadgets will include a number of upgrades.
Here’s a roundup of the most viable rumors regarding what we can expect from this year’s iPhones.
  • 4K Camera

The new iPhones will feature significantly improved cameras, according to 9to5Mac. The main rear-facing camera will be 12 megapixels and will be able to shoot video in high-resolution 4K. The front-facing camera will be 5 megapixels and shoot 1080p video. The front-facing camera is also expected to offer the ability for selfie panoramas, slow-motion video and flash for low-light environments.
  • Pressure-Sensitive Touch Screen

Apple has already created an Apple Watch screen that can detect varying levels of pressure when touched. Now the company is expected to expand on that technology through a new interface reportedly called the “3D Touch Display.” The updated iPhone screen will be able to tell the difference between a light tap, a standard press, and a hard press, and assign different functionality to each of those interactions within apps. In Maps, for example, a user might be able to look up a destination and then hard press it on the map to immediately launch turn-by-turn directions.
  • Boosted Memory

Multiple reports indicate that the new iPhones will boast 2GB of RAM, double the memory available on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Boosted RAM would allow the new phones to run more apps seamlessly without slowing down. The device will also feature the new A9 processor being built by Samsung and TSMC.
  • Improved Download Speeds

A new LTE chip developed by Qualcomm is expected to double the download speeds when customers are using data services, according to 9to5Mac. Such an improvement would make everything from visiting websites to downloading apps significantly faster when using wireless data service. The new chip is also expected to improve the iPhone’s battery life by being more power efficient than previous models.
  • Animated Wallpapers

The new iPhones could include wallpapers that spring to life. The lock screens on the phones are expected to offer special animated versions, featuring images such as koi fish swimming and smoke billowing in the air. To preserve battery life, the wallpapers are only expected to be available on the lock screen rather than the home screen.
  • 16 GB (and Up) of Storage

Despite offering high-def video recording capability, Apple isn’t expected to boost the storage capacity of the iPhone line. Expect the baseline 6s model that costs $199 witih a contract to still have 16GB of on-board storage. 64GB and 128GB models are also expected to go on sale for $100 and $200 more than the basic iPhone.
  • Other Apple Announcements

In addition to the new iPhones, Apple is expected to announce a new Apple TV that will feature universal search across streaming services, Siri integration and a focus on gaming. The long-rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro is also expected to make its debut, as well as the latest iteration of the iPad Mini line. We could also see new accessories and features for the Apple Watch.

NOKIA'S UPCOMING ANDROID SMARTPHONE


Nokia is reportedly working on a new smartphone for next year, and leaked images suggest its development is somewhat far along.
Photos purporting to show Nokia's C1 Android-based smartphone were published by CNMO, a China-based news outlet that claims the handset will come with a 5-inch, 1080p display. The smartphone, which will reportedly run Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, will also feature an Intel Atom chipset, according to the report.
Nokia has been rumored for months to be working on a new smartphone. The company itself has said that while it will ultimately lend its design credibility and expertise to a handset, it has no interest in manufacturing a product. Instead, a third party will take on manufacturing duties and license the Nokia name in the device it designs.
If the C1 is indeed real and the images showing it in action are legitimate, Nokia is seemingly far along in the process of getting its handset to store shelves. The issue, however, is that it's legally barred from launching a new smartphone until later next year, when the conditions of its agreement with Microsoft expire. When Nokia sold off its Devices business to Redmond last year, it agreed to not develop a smartphone until 2016.
If and when Nokia re-enters the smartphone space, it would be a significant milestone for the company. Nokia was, after all, once the dominant force in the mobile market, selling more devices than any other company in the world. After the iPhone's launch in 2007, however, and as customer interest in devices changed, Nokia was left behind. The company partnered with Microsoft and its Windows Phone platform in a last-ditch effort to succeed, but it ultimately failed, leading to the sale of its hardware business to the software giant.
Still, Nokia still has significant expertise in the mobile space, and its intellectual property paves the way for the company to easily build new devices. What's more, the sale to Microsoft gives what's left of Nokia the ability to sell Android devices, rather than stick with Windows.
Nokia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This is the second major image leak in the last several days, meanwhile. Last week, Android Authority posted photos of what it claims is LG's upcoming Nexus 5X handset. That device, the company said, will launch on Sept. 29.

MOTO X PLAY LAUNCHING IN INDIA ON 14 SEPT

Motorola is all set to launch its mid-range Moto X Play phone in India. A day after teasing the phone's launch on Twitter, the company has sent invites to the media for an event scheduled on September 14 where it will announce the India availability of the phone. The invite features a picture of the phone's back and a caption that reads, "A better mobile relationship is when you and your partner can spend the nights talking without realizing the time passing by." 
Moto X Play, which was showcased alongside the more-powerful Moto X Style in July, has a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution. The key highlights of the smartphone are its 3,630mAh battery and 21MP camera, which Motorola says is the fastest in the industry. 


The smartphone, which has nano-coating to protect it from water damage, is expected to be priced around Rs 20,000, but this could not be confirmed. 
Running stock Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop), Moto X Play is powered by the 1.7GHz octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB RAM. The smartphone offers dual-sim support, 5MP front camera, 32GB built-in storage and has a hybrid microSD+sim slot.

SNAPDEAL TO INVEST $100M IN SHOPO


Snapdeal had acquired Shopo.In a couple of year back, and now the eCommerce firm will invest $100 million to enhance technology and expand the Shopo brand. Shopo was launched about 2 months back, developed by a 14-member team, it is a mobile-only marketplace that works on on a zero commission model for vendors.
It aims to bring small and medium businesses (SMBs) online, and already have 20,000 shops on the platform. It targets of getting one million such shops on Shopo in the next one year. Its app which is available for Android and iOS users, allows entrepreneurs and small shops to go online without submitting any documents and avoids long verification procedures. Also, as mentioned above they don’t have to pay any commission for the sale.
Shopo has a chat-based model that allows sellers to connect with buyers, and individual selling can click a photo of their products and list on Shopo. Also, it is looking at offering SMBs help with logistics and payment gateways.
“Sellers can use our logistics and payment gateways, just like they would use any other courier service. It is just about making the seller experience a hassle-free one,” Bahl said.
Inspired by Alibaba’s Taobao, which facilitates consumer-to-consumer (C2C) retail by providing a platform for small businesses and individual entrepreneurs to open online stores, Shopo is also following the same model. This is the second Alibaba funded eCommerce firm that is going into a zero commission marketplace model.
In April, Paytm had launched a zero commission mobile marketplace app for small and mid-sized firms. Also, in the same month, Snapdeal acquired mCommerce payments firm FreeCharge for $450 million in cash and stock, to compete with Paytm. Freecharge and Paytm earlier had the same business model of facilitating mobile payments for mobile number recharges, bill payments etc. until Paytm expanded into an eCommerce marketplace model.
Looking at the path that both Paytm and Snapdeal are following, they appear to be deploying same strategies for vendor and customer acquisitions. At the same time, they are also competing with other marketplaces in the country – Flipkart, Amazon, Shopclues and their likes.
Snapdeal had announced its plan to make up 10 more investments this fiscal year, to take on Flipkart and Amazon. In a recent exclusive interview with ET, Kunal Bahl said that, “The one thing I am very, very clear about right now is that I think we’re going to be No. 1 (in terms of sales) by March 2016. I think we’re going to beat Flipkart by then.” Soon after that, firing back at Snapdeal, Flipkart’s Co-Founder Mukesh Bansal told ET that, “No online retailer in India will be even half Flipkart’s size by March 2016. There is not a shred of doubt based on all the market numbers we have today.”

AMAZON RELEASES $US50 TAB

The Seattle online retailer plans to release a $US50 tablet with a 6-inch screen later this year, according to people familiar with the matter. That would make it one of the least-expensive tablets on the market and half the price of the company’s current Fire HD 6-inch tablet.
The move would potentially attract buyers looking for a simple — and effectively disposable — device for straightforward tasks like streaming video at home and shopping on Amazon.com.
But such inexpensive tablets typically come with compromises like inferior screen quality, durability or battery life in comparison to more expensive tablets like Amazon’s larger Fire tablets and industry-leading devices like Apple iPad. For instance, the $US50 device will have a mono speaker, rather than stereo, one of the people said.


The $US50 device is part of a slate Amazon is planning to release this year that will also include tablets with 8-inch and 10-inch screens, according to the people familiar.
Amazon has long sought to undercut its hardware competitors, in part by eschewing profits on the devices themselves. Rather, chief executive Jeff Bezos has said, the company prefers to make money by selling services that work with the devices, like e-books and video rentals.
Mr Bezos had set an internal goal of the $US50 price tag for versions of both the Fire tablet and Kindle e-reader, viewing the rock-bottom prices as a crucial lure for a more cost-conscious group of buyers, the people said. But the e-reader screen technology from its vendors ultimately proved too expensive to drop the retail price, the people said. Amazon’s cheapest Kindle sells for $US79.
“Will people tolerate a potentially inferior experience just because a tablet is $US50?” said Frank Gillett, a Forrester Research analyst. “Amazon has to be very careful about what they’re giving up to get to that low price point.”
An Amazon spokeswoman declined to comment.
Amazon faces potential new challenges, as Apple may introduce new versions of its popular iPad and iPad Mini tablets as soon as tomorrow, along with new iPhones.
Critics blasted Amazon for pricing its Fire smartphone equal to the iPhone last year, despite throwing in a free year of the otherwise $US99 Prime membership. The handset’s sales fizzled, and steep price cuts couldn’t boost sales. In October, Amazon said it would take a $US170 million writedown primarily for unsold inventory.
After the Fire phone flop, Amazon reorganised its Silicon Valley-based hardware-development centre known as Lab126 and laid off dozens of engineers who worked on the device, according to people familiar with the matter. The division has developed Fire tablets, Kindle e-readers, the Fire TV set-top box and other devices.
Amazon has curtailed some of its more ambitious projects like a projector device, a smart stylus and 14-inch tablet, as The Wall Street Journal reported last month. It is still working to develop a high-end computer for the kitchen codenamed Kabinet, a tablet with a 3-D screen and an e-reader battery that can last two-years on a single charge, people familiar with the matter said.
To lower costs for the new 6-inch tablet, Amazon outsourced much of the development to overseas firms including Shanghai Huaqin Telecom Technology and Taiwan’s Compal Communications, rankling some at its Lab126 unit, two of the people said. Compal has previously worked with Apple and Hewlett-Packard Co., among others. Representatives of Shanghai Huaqin and Compal didn’t respond to requests for comment.
The 10-inch tablet would be bigger than Amazon’s existing Fire HDX tablet, which touts an 8.9-inch screen and tops out at about $US600.
Amazon’s cheapest current Fire tablet has a 6-inch screen and sells for $US99, including advertisements that appear as screen savers, or $US114 without the ads. It isn’t clear whether the $US50 price for the newest tablet includes ads.
The coming 6-inch tablet is just half an inch bigger — measured diagonally across the screen — than Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus smartphone and is smaller than some large-screen smartphones known as phablets. Amazon’s device isn’t expected to have phone capabilities.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Amazon sell several 7-inch tablets for around $US50, including from brands unfamiliar to many Americans like RCA, Ematic and Ares.
But Amazon has failed to win over many consumers with its tablet slate.
As of the second quarter, Apple and Samsung Electronics alone commanded 42 per cent of the U.S. tablet market, while Amazon held less than 1 per cent, according to research firm IDC, which doesn’t include 6-inch tablets in its count.

MICROSOFT PREPARES WIN10 PHONES TO GET NOKIA'S GROOVE BACK

Last year Microsoft bought Finish company Nokia's devices division for $7.2 billion, and now the US-based tech giant is trying to get the most out of its investment by establishing a foothold in the growing Indian smartphone market.

Microsoft is preparing a new set of Windows 10-based, Nokia-branded smartphones to be released in India by the end of 2015, according to a report in the Economic Times.
The devices will be some of the first designed from the ground up for Windows 10. The new operating system, which launched on PCs and tablets in late July, is expected to be rolled out for mobile devices in the next few months.
The news comes as Microsoft's share in the Indian handset market dropped from 9.8 percent to 8.1 percent between the first and second quarter of 2015. According to Counter Point Research, Nokia is the country's fourth biggest handset maker thanks to the strong sales of its feature phones -- however, due to the Lumia range's lagging sales, Microsoft itself falls outside of the top five smartphone makers.
Details on the phone specs weren't shared, but it's likely that most of the phones Nokia produces for the region will be budget or midrange devices. Despite Samsung being the most popular brand in the country, most devices purchased in the region are not flagship or premium phones.
Ajey Mehta, Microsoft's Mobile Devices India manager, told Economic Times that the new phones would support all forms of 4G -- presently a rarity amongst devices other phone makers have released in the region.
Once the leader of the handset market, Nokia failed to adapt to the smartphone revolution and ended up falling well behind current market leaders Samsung and Apple. Last year it officially exited the business when Microsoft acquired its phone division for $7.2 billion.

BSNL BOOSTING THE BROADBAND SPEEDS

State-run telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) on Monday decided to upgrade landline broadband speed to minimum 2Mbps at no additional cost for broadband customers on pan-India basis from October 1.
Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the facility in Gurgaon.

The BSNL's move came in the light of Narendra Modi government's Digital India initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said BSNL works efficiently in natural calamities and it has proved this in Jammu and Kashmir floods, Nepal earthquake and Andhra Pradesh cyclones.
"When BSNL can deliver its services well in natural calamities, then it should be able to provide better services during normal conditions," he said.
Directing the BSNL authorities to evolve a system of complaint redressal, the union minister also asked them to do marketing. "I want your interface with people more frequently."
The country is passing through a changing phase, he said, adding that BSNL has to play a significant role in it.
He recalled that he was minister for communications in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government as well and when that government left in 2004, BSNL was in profit of Rs. 10,000 crores.
Prasad said once again he has been given the same responsibility and during analysis of records, it was found that BSNL was running in loss of Rs. 8,000 crores. "At that very moment I said that BSNL has to improve and I will support."
He said that BSNL is also offering 1GB free email box to their customers from 50MB mail box.
The minister said the speed upgradation will benefit all the existing and new Broadband customers of BSNL.
Under this scheme, BSNL is upgrading the speed of existing Broadband plans of 512Kbps and 1Mbps to 2Mbps speed with no extra charge.
"The speed upgradation will benefit all the existing and new broadband customers of BSNL. Under this scheme, BSNL is upgrading the speed of existing Broadband plans of 512Kbps and 1Mbps to 2Mbps speed," the BSNL said in a statement.
BSNL launched the broadband services over its landline in India in 2005, with speed of 256kbps and above over the state-of-art multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) -based IP infrastructure in urban as well as rural areas.
"This upgradation shall enhance customer experience while surfing on Internet and enjoying live video streaming by all customers even in the low price range. This scheme is expected to attract new customers for subscribing BSNL Broadband customers in an affordable manner," the statement added.
Also present on the occasion was union Minister of State for Planning (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjeet Singh, who said the nationwide facility would give boost to the IT industry.
CMD of BSNL Anupam Srivastava and CGM of Haryana Circle Ambala R.C. Arya were also present on the occasion.

CANON'S NEW 250MP IMAGE SENSOR


Japanese camera giant Canon has set another world record for developing a mind-boggling 250 megapixel image sensor.
The APS-H-size CMOS sensor with 19,500 x 12,600 pixels resolution offers the world’s highest pixel count for its size.
Canon says the sensor when installed in a camera is capable to capture images enabling the distinguishing of lettering on the side of an airplane flying at a distance of approximately 18 km from the shooting location.
The APS-H sensor is bigger than APS-C but smaller than full-frame and is used primarily in Canon’s EOS-1D line of DSLRs.
The new CMOS sensor achieves an ultra-high readout speed of 1.25 billion pixels per second despite its exceptionally high pixel count. This has been made possible through circuit miniaturization and enhanced signal-processing technology.
It further enables capturing of ultra-high-pixel-count video at a speed of five frames per second. The resolution achieved in videos shot with the new sensor is approximately 125 times that of Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and approximately 30 times that of 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) video.
You might be hopeful about seeing the sensor landing soon in consumer DSLRs, but Canon is considering its application in specialised surveillance and crime prevention tools, ultra-high-resolution measuring instruments and other industrial equipment, and the field of visual expression.
